Chinese scientists discover key protein to more efficiently produce stem cells

Cellular reprogramming and its efficiency of the IPS cells have puzzled scientists around the world for many years, although the IPS cells are believed to be of great significance in organ transplant, gene therapy and more other fields. A research team from Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health along with the Chinese Academy of Sciences identified a special enzyme which is able to significantly improve efficiency of Vitamin C to transform a body cell to an IPS cell. IPS cells are a kind of stem cells artificially derived from non-pluripotent cells which have huge potential for bioengineering and medical applications to cure human diseases. The inspiring discovery was published in an online edition of an international journal "Cell, Stem Cell" on Nov.

An analysis of comprehensive data from the Danish progeny tests (Nielsen, Nielsen & Dissing Andersen, 1969) has resulted in an estimated protein efficiency ...

Plant-Based Proteins

Protein efficiency ratio (PER) and, more commonly, protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) are used to compare protein source,. A protein that contains all eight essential amino acids is considered a complete protein. In addition, PER overestimates the value of some animal proteins and underestimates the value of some vegetable proteins for human growth (Food Technology, 1994. Nutritionally speaking, though, plant proteins can meet our protein needs while providing additional health benefits. And plant-based proteins can both fulfill consumers’ protein needs and allay eco-friendly consciences. Without adequate intake of the eight essential amino acids, the body will break down muscle tissue to meet its protein needs. All animal proteins are complete, whereas only some plant sources are complete....

A New Look At Protein Misfolding
They label each protein with a pair of FRET donor and acceptor dyes. In two-domain proteins, each domain contains one dye. In three-domain proteins, only the first and third are labeled. The FRET efficiency (the fraction of donor excitation that

FEW: The time has finally come for dry fractionation
FEW: The time has finally come for dry fractionation capitalize on energy efficiency. First, fine grind and liquefy in one step. Two, fractionate the oil, protein and fiber out before fermentation. Third, use continuous clean starch fermentation to economically distill, evaporate and control waste.

Aldehyde tags can be precisely placed in any protein of interest, including mammalian cell produced proteins, with ease and high efficiency. Multiple tags can be used for increasing cargo amount while preserving the modified protein's natural structure

Large-scale experimental studies show unexpected amino acid effects on protein ...
Additional analyses suggest that positively but not negatively charged amino acids may reduce translation efficiency in E. coli irrespective of codon usage. While some observed effects may reflect indirect evolutionary correlations, others may reflect

Are all protein sources equal for weight management?
Are all protein sources equal for weight management? Intake of protein has been shown to favourably influence satiety, thermogenesis, energy efficiency and body composition, particularly during weight- reducing programs,” explained the scientists. “Furthermore, a modest increase in dietary protein
